Cruise Gear I Actually Use

Not a sponsored list. Not stuff I was paid to mention. These are the things I genuinely pack on every sailing.

Three Things Worth Having

Over multiple cruises, three items have ended up permanently in my cruise bag — not because they're exciting, but because every time I've had them I've been glad, and every time I've forgotten one I've noticed.

These aren't expensive. They're not glamorous. They're just genuinely useful in the specific context of being on a cruise ship.

Hand Sanitiser Keyrings

3PCS Hand Sanitiser Keyring — Portable Leather Clip-On Gel Holder

A set of three small portable hand sanitiser holders with a leather finish and carabiner clip. Refillable, so you fill them with your own gel and clip one to your bag, lanyard, or cabin key card holder. Available in grey, blue, and pink.

Why I pack this

“When you're boarding, heading to the buffet, exploring a port market, or coming back from a shore excursion — hand sanitiser is something you want instantly available without digging through your bag. These clip straight onto your lanyard alongside your cruise card. You barely notice them until you need them, and then they're just right there. The refillable design means you're not throwing away plastic every time, and one fill lasts well through a port day.”

What you get

  • Pack of 3 (grey, blue, pink)
  • Refillable — fill with your own gel
  • Clip / keychain attachment
  • Compact leather-finish exterior
  • Works for soap, shampoo, or hand gel

Motion Sickness Patches

Hionfurt Motion Sickness Patches — 32 Count, Non-Drowsy, 72-Hour Relief

Discreet motion sickness patches that you apply behind the ear before travel. Each patch lasts up to 72 hours, making them well-suited for sea days or rough channel crossings. Non-drowsy formula — so you actually get to enjoy your cruise rather than napping through it.

Why I pack this

“The English Channel is unpredictable. Even if you've never had sea sickness before, the combination of the Bay of Biscay or a blustery North Sea crossing can catch you completely off guard. The non-drowsy element is what makes these different — traditional sea sickness tablets can make you fuzzy and sleepy, which isn't what you want when you're in Rotterdam for a day. Apply one before you board, forget about it, enjoy your trip. 32 patches in a pack means you're covered for multiple sailings.”

What you get

  • 32 patches per pack
  • Each patch lasts up to 72 hours
  • Non-drowsy formula
  • Apply behind the ear
  • Suitable for sea, car, and air travel

Magnetic Cabin Hooks

eosmuk Magnetic Cruise Cabin Hooks — 22lb+ Heavy Duty, Pack of 10 (White)

Strong magnetic hooks designed specifically for cruise cabin use. The metal walls and ceiling of most cabins are magnetic, meaning these hooks attach instantly — no screws, no damage, no losing your deposit. Each hook holds over 22lbs. Pack of 10 in white.

Why I pack this

“Cruise cabins are notoriously short on storage space, and the walls are almost entirely magnetic metal. These hooks transform that dead wall space into actual storage. I use them for hanging bags on the back of the cabin door, keeping damp towels off the floor, organising lanyards and sunglasses, and generally stopping the cabin from descending into chaos by day two. They're strong enough that I've never had one fall off mid-sailing. Ten in a pack means you can dot them around the entire cabin. Total game changer for cabin organisation.”

What you get

  • Pack of 10, white finish
  • 22lb+ (10kg+) hold strength per hook
  • Strong neodymium magnet base
  • Works on any magnetic metal surface
  • No tools, screws, or adhesives needed
  • Ideal for cabin walls, fridge, ceiling

The Short Version

Small things. Real difference.

None of these items take up meaningful space in a bag. Combined, they cost less than a single ship cocktail if you order at the wrong bar. But having them versus not having them is noticeable — especially the motion sickness patches on a rough Channel crossing, and the magnetic hooks by day two in a busy cabin.

If you're building a kit from scratch, start with the hooks. Genuinely transforms how usable a cruise cabin feels.
